Also present were Fran Paul, citizen visitor, and Isaac Baker of Native Niche.

 

1. Call meeting to order.

Co-chair Brendan Wood-Taylor called the meeting to order at 6:03 p.m.

 

2. Approve minutes of the May 6, 2019, meeting.

Motion (Kolstad/McDermott) to approve the minutes. Motion carried.

 

3. Remarks by visitors/correspondence.

There was no public comment.

 

4. Treasurer report.

Brian Kolstad gave the treasurer report for the year to date. There are seven paid vendors for Prairie Fest.

 

5. Educational programming.

Mr. Kolstad mentioned skipping June programming and focusing on July’s educational program and Prairie Fest. Tracy McDermott mentioned having a prairie hike guided by a committee member on June 19. There was an idea for summer programs to be outdoor events.

 

6. Grounds manager report.

Isaac Baker gave the report:

  • Pulled yellow rocket.
  • Found garlic mustard by the creek.
  • Took care of gardens.
  • Move mulching to June instead of July.
  • Four seedlings planted two years ago that didn’t survive flooding need to be pulled out; will make a recommendation as to what trees should be planted to replace them.
  • Mr. Kolstad mentioned that Brian Weed wanted to do a chainsaw safety class in the fall and that Mr. Weed knows a company that could treat ash trees in the arboretum.

 

7. Prairie Fest 2019.

Jo Ann Giese-Kent mentioned there was a mix-up with the May meeting, which was rescheduled for June 17 at 6 p.m. in Room AE136 at UW-Fond du Lac. Ms. Giese-Kent noted that there are 12 vendors signed up for Prairie Fest. Before the next meeting, she would like more information on speakers, electric cars, donors and food vendors.

 

8. Fundraising/events.

Mr. Kolstad provided a plant sale update.

 

9. Prairie clean-up.

The community is invited to meet at the shelter to help with prairie clean-up from 9 a.m. to noon on June 15. Ms. McDermott will bring trash bags for the event.

10. JustServe volunteering.

Dr. David Demezas received an email from JustServe about volunteering at the Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum from 6-8 p.m. on June 19. He will coordinate with the group. Work ideas include pulling yellow rocket; cleaning Leopold benches, interpretive signs on the trail and Ellen’s garden; and mulching.

 

11. Future meeting dates.

b. Education/Prairie Fest:  6 p.m., June 17, UW-Fond du Lac, Room AE136.

 

12. Adjournment.

Motion (Demezas/Kolstad) to adjourn the meeting at 6:59 p.m. Motion carried.
