The purpose of the Fond du Lac County Victim/Witness Program is to provide direct services to crime victims and witnesses by ensuring that all victims and witnesses of crime are treated with dignity, respect, courtesy and sensitivity and that the rights in Chapter 950, Wis. Stats., of victims and witnesses of crime are honored and protected.  To achieve this the Victim/Witness Coordinator maintains contact with victims and witnesses to update them on case progress in the criminal justice system.

Some of the services provided are as follows:

  • Support for the victim or witness of a crime from the time the crime occurs, through disposition, with special support for children victims and witnesses
  • Information and referral to other sources of help for victims, including counseling and support groups
  • Provide information on criminal justice procedures and information on the progress of the case through the criminal justice system
  • Notification to victims and witnesses of court hearings, cancellations and rescheduling
  • Support in court for the victim or witness of a crime and escort to hearings
  • Provide Victim Impact Statements for completion by victims and submit them to the court for its consideration in sentencing the defendant
  • Provide information on obtaining restitution for financial losses
  • Specific information and updates on the case concerning the crime victim including case progress and disposition
  • Employer intercession
  • Provide a safe and secure area while attending court proceedings
