Fond du Lac County Highway Department has acknowledged a need to initiate a higher level of maintenance to deal with invasive species along our County Highway System especially vegetation that is noxious.
The invasive plants within the road right-of-way can pose a significant health risk to highway workers, utility workers, emergency responders, anyone using the roadways, and adjacent property owners. Our crews have been trained and certified in applying EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) certified herbicides. These herbicides are plant specific and won’t hurt native plants. This means grasses, milkweed, and other native plants will flourish, helping our wildlife and pollinators. Spraying these areas will help to control and eradicate Wild Parsnip and other harmful invasive weed species.
Our intention is to spray all of our County Roads, west of Interstate 41 and some of the Parks Departments Walking Trails in 2026. No Town Roads will be sprayed by FDL County. Weather permitting, spraying is slated to begin in late April and expected to proceed for three weeks.
