A crisis is defined in Webster’s Dictionary as “an unstable or crucial time…whose outcome will make a decisive difference for better or worse.”

OUR PROGRAM

Crisis Intervention staff provide support to people who are experiencing a mental health crisis by phone or on a walk-in basis. Our goal is to provide assessment, support, brief intervention, and links to services in the community, including inpatient psychiatric care, if needed.

Mental health crises can include feelings of desperation, loss of control, suicidal thoughts or intent, depression, debilitating alcohol/drug abuse, or the symptoms of a severe and persistent mental illness, which include such things as hallucinations, delusions and paranoia.

OUR TEAM

The Crisis Intervention program is staffed during the week from 8:00am to 4:00pm by the Crisis Intervention Coordinator and the clinicians of the Outpatient Clinic, from 3:00pm-11:00pm by the Crisis Intervention Worker, and for all other hours by Crisis Intervention Specialists as well as the staff of the Acute Psychiatric Unit.

The Crisis team has a mobile crisis worker with the City of Fond du Lac Police Department as part of a Co-Response model with a City of Fond du Lac Police Officer.  The Co-response model is called out to a crisis through dispatch. The team is available from 10:00am-6:00pm Monday through Friday.

The Crisis team has a mobile crisis worker in the Sheriff Department’s Office as well that can be called out to a crisis through dispatch. Those hours are Monday through Friday from 12:00pm-8:00pm.

Crisis Intervention has the responsibility to work with appropriate law enforcement staff and with our Corporation Counsel to arrange for involuntary commitments to an inpatient mental health unit when any crisis situation becomes dangerous to self or others.
