Family Caregiver Support

Who is Eligible?

• Any caregiver 18 or older who provides unpaid care to a person age 60 or older, or to a person of any age who has Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia.
  • Note: The older adult receiving care must need assistance with daily living.
• Grandparents or relatives age 55 and older who are the primary caregiver for a child under age 19 or who care for a person age 19 to 59 with a long-term disability.

Who is Eligible?

Families are eligible if the three criteria's are met:

1. There is a written diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia
2. The person with dementia resides in a home setting (not a facility)
3. The person with dementia and spouse have a gross annual income of $48,000 or less (costs related to dementia-related care may be deducted when calculating gross income)

• Offers help like rides to appointments, managing finances, and daily care like meal preparation or household chores. As well as ongoing support and resource navigation to caregivers throughout Wisconsin.

• Dedicated to providing support to family caregivers and the professionals who help them and to increase public awareness of issues facing family caregivers. 

National Institute on Aging

• The National Institute on Aging (NIA), part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), was established in 1974 to improve the health and well-being of older adults through research. NIA conducts and supports genetic, biological, clinical, behavioral, social, and economic research on aging and the challenges and needs of older adults. NIA is at the forefront of scientific discovery about the nature of healthy aging to extend the healthy, active years of life. It is also the lead federal agency for Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias research. This website provides specific information related to the health and well-being of older adults.
